Los Angeles band Local Natives braved the desert heat to swing by the KROQ Party House at Coachella for an engaging and harmonious performance before their show at the festival’s Outdoor stage later on in the evening.

“Yeah, for sure,” admitted frontman Taylor Rice to DJ Kat Corbett regarding stripped-down shows like they played at the KROQ Party House. “We came up (to the house) and saw Palma Violets, and they’re a full band and sounded awesome, so we’re wishing we’d come as a full band.”

The band also talked about giving away wristbands for Coachella on their Tumblr page by way of a scavenger hunt (the wristbands were stashed behind the popular L.A. venue Silverlake Lounge).

“It’s a weird feeling, because we’ve been working on it for so long,” Rice said about the band’s second full-length album, Hummingbird, which reached #12 on the Billboard Top 200 when it was released in January of this year.

“The idea of it being out for two months throws me for a loop, because we’ve been at it for so long,” he added.

“There are always things I want to change from both records,” interjected band member Kelcey Ayer about the band’s recorded work. “It’s strange, I don’t get to enjoy like everyone else gets to enjoy it. (The songs) live on live, so you just change what you wanted to change live, so that’s the cool thing about that.”

After Coachella, Local Natives have a West Coast tour scheduled, including sold-out stops in Seattle (April 26 & 29) before jetting over to Europe, where they’re part of the impressive bill of this year’s Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona, Spain, on May 23.
